Bonnets can be either integral with the valve body or separate from it. The bonnet serves as the top cover—a detachable part that forms the primary mounting surface of the valve body. It is typically connected to the valve body by high-strength bolts. As a pressure-bearing component, the bonnet’s design conditions are identical to those of the valve body. To remove the internal components of the valve, it is often necessary to first disassemble the bonnet. However, in certain valve designs—such as eccentric rotary valves and slide gate valves—the bonnet is cast as a single piece with the valve body. In such cases, the internal components can be removed through the end face of the inlet or outlet flange, or through the end face of another separate valve body. While this detachable bonnet offers the advantage of easy disassembly, it also has the drawback of being prone to falling off.
